Brief Introduction

University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is a research-intensive university. Originated from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences and with its distinctive education model of integrating research and education, UCAS is featured with its large-size graduate education and a small-size elite undergraduate education.

UCAS ranks 5th among global universities in 2026 Nature Index and rests 1st in Chinese mainland and 10th worldwide in the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) university rankings.

UCAS Education: "Integration of Research and Education"

UCAS is committed to the “Integration of Research and Education”, under the administration and management of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China's highest academic institution and national think tank in science and technology, and the national strategic force in basic research and integrated high-tech development. UCAS is deeply integrated with CAS research institutes, observatories, and centers (hereinafter referred to as “training units”) in faculty, education and research. UCAS has four campuses in Beijing, five off-Beijing education centers, and more than 110 training units across China.

UCAS offers students world-class platforms for research and innovation—25 large research infrastructures, 2 national research centers, 100 state key laboratories, 39 national engineering research centers and laboratories, and numerous national-level research projects across its training units.

With a comprehensive academic structure, UCAS provides graduate programs in 12 major disciplines, including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, philosophy, interdisciplinary sciences, economics, law, education, literature and history. It also offers 15 undergraduate programs and 225 postdoctoral research stations.

International Cooperation

UCAS maintains close partnerships with leading global institutions, including University of Oxford, University of California, Berkeley, the Royal Society, UK and the National Centre for Scientific Research of France, etc. UCAS is a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). UCAS has co-founded the Sino-Danish College in China with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science and eight Danish public universities. UCAS hosts Secretariat of the China National Chapter of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics Asia-Pacific (ICTP-AP). UCAS also supports education capacity building through Overseas Joint Centers for Science and Education and the CAS-ANSO scholarship.
